DOMINION IN ALL SPHERES - PART 2 || WORD & FIRE || 23RD JULY 2026

Jul 23, 2026 · Pastor Jerry Eze

Summary

In Matthew 14, Jesus sends His disciples ahead while He retreats to pray, and amidst the chaos of a storm, He approaches them, "walking on the sea" (Matthew 14:24-25). The storm may be fierce, but it does not dictate the situation; Jesus does. When the disciples see Him, fear tries to mislabel His presence, yet Jesus responds with reassurance: “Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid” (Matthew 14:27). Peter’s story feels so close to our own. He steps out because Jesus speaks, “Come” (Matthew 14:29). He is not trying to prove he can walk on water, he is simply walking on what Jesus said. But then the turning point comes: “when he saw the wind boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink…” (Matthew 14:30). What changed was not Jesus, it was Peter’s focus. Still, even in the sinking, Peter prays a simple prayer, “Lord, save me,” and “immediately Jesus stretched forth his hand, and caught him” (Matthew 14:30-31). His hand is faster than our fear. “Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid” (Matthew 14:27). “Come” (Matthew 14:29). “Lord, save me” (Matthew 14:30). This points us to Jesus as the One who rules the storm and rescues the sinking. He does not shame Peter into silence, He lifts him, then leads him back into the boat where “the wind ceased” and worship rises, “Of a truth thou art the Son of God” (Matthew 14:33). Dominion is not self-confidence, it is staying close to the Son of God. Reflect on this truth today: you may feel the wind, but you do not have to stare at it. There is a word from Jesus to walk on, and there is a hand from Jesus to hold you when you wobble. The call is simple, keep your eyes on Him, keep your mouth open in prayer, and keep moving with what He has said. Take a quiet moment today to picture Jesus coming to you in the “fourth watch,” not panicked, not late, just present. Let His voice settle your heart. Then whisper your own honest prayer, and walk forward again, not on the waves, but on His word.

This week

  • Name the “wind” that has been stealing your focus, then pray, “Lord, save me,” and deliberately turn your attention back to Jesus.
  • Write down one clear word from this passage to walk on today, for example, “Be not afraid,” or “Come,” and speak it aloud when fear rises.
  • Set aside a short, specific time to pray before you face your day’s pressures, asking God to strengthen your faith and keep you steady.
